Sunday September 6th 2009

Bartimaeus Baptist Temple Posted on September 2, 2009 by David WhitmoreJune 10, 2018

Well we made it to September and we have so many exciting things happening this month.  Every week we have something to look forward to.  I really appreciate the message Larry had for us last week and if you were not there go and listen to the audio that has been downloaded.  I ask that you remember by sister and brother in law in your prayers this week as they may have discovered bone cancer in my brother in law and they will know more later this week.  If you have a prayer request you can contact me by cell phone ( Yea I got a new one ) or contact Cindy or Mike Accidental and they will help get the prayer chain started.  There is power in prayer and the more people praying the better.

It seems like a month of Sunday since I prepared this sermon but it is in Matthew the 10Th chapter and verses 17-31.  I was going to do this sermon on the 16Th. This is the only sermon I will have this month so I plan to make it count. I am excited about what God has to show us and what he has for us and I hope you will be there to receive it.

Next week is one of the most exciting times for our church as we celebrate our homecoming and our 51st Anniversary.  Young brother Zach will bring the message and I know we will have a wonderful time celebrating what God is doing for us. This is the only Sunday we meet on Sunday morning as we will get started about 9AM. We will have dinner catered in afterwards so be there this week and next.  Summitt Church will be here on the 20Th and brother Sorge will be here on the 27Th.  Don’t miss any of these service.  Do something good for somebody this week and invite someone to join us on Sunday!  We love you and thank God for you every day.

Pastor David & Pris

Message for August 30 – The Name of Jesus

Bartimaeus Baptist Temple Posted on August 26, 2009 by LarryJune 16, 2018

I’m delighted to once again have the opportunity to share with you this Sunday.  It is always a pleasure to study and share the word of God that brings life.  This week we will explore the name of Jesus.  Names have a special significance in the Bible.  It is a testimony to God’s power that even names He did not personally choose often came to reflect the life and character of their owners.  I believe this is another way for God to illustrate for us the purpose and significance of Jesus.  Sometimes God changed the names of people to reflect His intentions for their lives.  In other cases he gave the name at birth.  This is how it was with His own son, Jesus.  What a wonderful name!  There is no other by which we may be saved (Acts 4:12.)  Come and join us on Sunday as we talk about the significance of His name and what it means that He has given it to us.

Bartimaeus Baptist Temple Posted on August 18, 2009 by David WhitmoreJune 16, 2018

Wow what a great service we had last week!  If you were not there you missed out on meeting several visitors as well as the testimony of April and the testimony from Ms. Dixon. What a powerful testimony they both had. We had a friend of Sandra share two songs with us and we were all truly blessed.  We also ate up all the birthday cake afterwards.  It was just a great time of fellowship and worship and I truly enjoyed every minuet of it, I hope you did too.

I learned this week that Joel is on a sabbatical for next 4 weeks but Summitt will be here and Bryan & Jessica will be leading the service so we are still on for Summitt to be here on Sunday.  Larry is going to be presenting a message on Sunday the 30Th and I will let him tell you what his message will be next week on this space.

I appreciate your prayers for Pris on Sunday and she is feeling better but now Kim has it so include her in your prayers this week.  I hope all of you that were here last Sunday will be back this week and lets celebrate how Good our God is and lets worship the way he deserves to be worshipped.  i hope you all have a great week and do good things not for your sake but for God’s sake.  We will see you on Sunday, know we love you and care about you

Pastor David & Pris

Bartimaeus Baptist Temple Posted on August 13, 2009 by David WhitmoreJune 16, 2018

Greetings faithful members of BBT.  I am sorry it has taken me so long to post this week but I have had problems with my internet.  I hope you all are doing well.  I love hearing from you during the week and I really love to hear about the blessings God has given you. Last Sunday was a really good time of fellowship and worship.  I really enjoyed Linda’s class on ” What to do when God says no.” I enjoyed Cletabell testimony and visiting with all of you. We had a good group and I hope we have even more on Sunday. It was nice to see Zack and his family visiting with us and I think Zack will be able to preach for us at the homecoming in September. This week will be a special Sunday as well, April is going to share her testimony with us and we will have a special guest Judy Dixon visiting with us and she also will share her testimony with us.  I know you will be inspired by both these testimony and we are going to celebrate the Birthday’s after service with Cake and Ice Cream. Please invite someone to come with you Sunday and lets have another great Sunday!

This week text is found in Mark 10:17-31. This once again is a story that those of us who have been in church for any amount of time know very well. It is about the young ruler that comes to Jesus and asks him what must I do to have eternal life? That is a great question and the answer will excite us to no end or it is going to scare you to death. This is a very telling story about a very intersting man.  I hope you will read these verses before Sunday and we are going to try and find some good in this young man as well as where he went wrong. We are all so quick to judge people but sometimes we may find some of the things we judge others we  may be doing the same things ourselves.

Keep praying for those that need our prayers and especially remember Dee Dee and Arvella in your prayers this week as they must find some place to live this week. God bless you and keep doing good things for others because that is the most important thing we can do while we are here. We love you and we will see you on Sunday

Sunday August 9th 2009

Bartimaeus Baptist Temple Posted on August 6, 2009 by David WhitmoreJune 16, 2018

Good afternoon faithful members of BBT.  I hope you are having a great week and I look forward to seeing you on Sunday.  We had a great time on Sunday and I was thrilled that we had a couple of visitors with us last week.  We have a lot of people out sick right now so we really need to be working together to pray for those that are Ill so they can be back in church soon.  It is important that we continue to go to the Prayer room and pray for those listed their daily.  I got a call this week from Vicki Rodriquez who visited with us last week along with her husband Rod and she ask that we pray for a family members of hers that has been discovered with cancer again and they are not sure if they can treat this.  lets be praying for this young lady and ask God to show his mercy in an amazing way.  Sammy is till in the hospital but he is in good spirits and hopes to be moved to a rehab center this week.  Ed is doing better but is still in intensive care as of Thursday.  We need to remember these especially this week and pray daily for our friends and loved ones.

This weeks sermon is called Old Broadway and the Scripture verse is Matt 7: 13-14.  We are going to talk about which road we travel and how we can get on the right road.  It is so easy to fall in the trap of just cruising down the road without a care in the world only to find out we are on the road to destruction.  We need to know what road we are traveling and make sure we are aware of the consequences of not paying attention to what is around us.  let’s make sure we are on the narrow road that leads to life and lets enjoy the ride.  Life is much to short to waste it on frivolous things and it is too short to waste it on being angry and unloving to our brothers in sister.  We are going to talk about the parable of the lost son this week so read Luke 15 starting at vs 11.

This month will be over before we know it so make every effort to be with us every Sunday.  keep inviting people to come visit and make it your desire to do something good for somebody every week.  Ask God to lead people to you that need your help and then do everything you can to share the goodnews to the people you meet.  We love you and hope to see you on Sunday

Pastor David and Pris

Sunday August 2nd 2009

Bartimaeus Baptist Temple Posted on July 30, 2009 by David WhitmoreJune 23, 2018

Well, Hallelujah we made it through the month of July but we still have some hot weather ahead of us so be careful and take care of yourself as we need you to continue to be part of our family.  I hope you enjoyed last week as much as I did.  The food was terrific,  we owe a great deal to Mike and Cindy who cooked the brisket and to all of you who brought all that good food thanks so much for your help, lets do it again soon!  The praise and worship time was terrific and I know many were blessed and we all got a chance to participate in the worship service.  There was some healing that took place and I really felt the presence of the Holy Spirit.  I hope you did too.  Summitt really appreciated our providing lunch for them and they sure know how to show their appreciation.  I hope if you were prayed for on Sunday you will continue to claim your healing and know that God is working in your life.  Just continue to put him as the top priority in your life and you will be blessed.

I received word that Sammy had to go into the hospital on Tuesday and he is at Presbyterian hospital in Dallas.  Be praying for him that his foot gets better very quickly.  Don and Brenda became new grandparents this week as they have a new grandaughter named Addison.  She was over 9 pounds and both she and her mom are doing well.  What a great blessing God has bestowed on these two Young people and what a responsibility as well.

This weeks sermon is found in John 6: 1-14.  This is a story everyone knows and it is told in all four of the Gospel’s but I want us to look at this week with the idea of what do we do when we are overwhelmed.  This is something that is so common to all of us.  We need to understand that we have to learn how to overcome the stress and struggles the world puts on us and learn to relax and trust God.  This is so much easier said then done but if we ever learn to do this our lives will change dramatically.  I hope you read this scripture this week and ask God to show you what you need to receive from his word.  He is no trying to hide his truth from you he is excited about sharing all his blessings with his kids, and that is who we are.  Sean will be back this week to share with us his praise in song and I am not sure if it will be just him or his whole group “consecration”, but I know you will be blessed.

Remember to keep praying for those brothers and sister that need our help and keep inviting people to join us every week at 2:30 .  I will see you Sunday and remember to do something good for somebody this week and received the blessing God has for you.  We love you

Pastor David & Pris

Bartimaeus Baptist Temple Posted on July 23, 2009 by David WhitmoreJune 23, 2018

Hello faithful members of BBT.  I hope you are having a blessed week.  We really had a good group at church last week and we were truly blessed by having Liz share her testimony with us and she has promised to come back soon and show us her items she brought back from Africa.  We were honored to have several visitors last week including Jana Jackson from the Dallas Baptist Association and Rhanda was kind enough to play the piano for us.  We really had a great service and I am looking forward to this week service as well!

This week we are going to start early as we are making lunch for Summitt church this week.  We need everyone there by 1:30 to share lunch with them, then they will lead us in the praise and worship service starting at 2:30.  If you are bringing food please get their early and we will have everything ready to go at 1:30.  Remember to bring your Bible with you and be prepared for a blessing!

I hope you will continue to pray for those who we have mentioned in our prayer request and if you have a special prayer request please call me and let me pray with you.  Lets strive to keep a positive attitude about the things going on in our lives.  I know many of you are hurting right now and you need to feel like there is a light at the end of that tunnel and my promise to you is that there is always HOPE for our future there are blessings out there if we will just be faithfull to do what God has put before us and keep confessing our righteousness.  We are not just a dog in the pack.  We are children of the King, we are chosen, we are set aside we have been blessed and given all the power that God has given to his people to reach plateaus we never thought we could reach.  We will be able to accomplish what God has for us when we take our eyes off of ourselves and start looking at others the way God sees them.

Keep plugging along and keep doing good things for other people and God will continue to bless you.  We will see you on Sunday.  We love you but God loves you more

Bartimaeus Baptist Temple Posted on July 15, 2009 by David WhitmoreJune 23, 2018

Hello members of our BBT family.  I hope you are having a great week and that you are able to stay out of the heat.  I really enjoyed our time together last week and I know you enjoyed the praise of Sean and his family.  I hope to have him come back again when he can bring his band. It was nice to see Chuck & Lee back as they have both been in the hospital but they both looked great.  It was also nice to have Ruth back as well as Pris, as they had been out of town all week. This week we will have a special guest speaker Liz Rochester who has visited with the Blind Christian Fellowship and will be out our service on Sunday to share her experience of traveling to Africa.  She has a great testimony of how when everyone says you can’t God says we can, if we will just be faithful and believe we have the power of the Holy Spirit living inside of us.  I am excited to hear her testimony and I have invited several guest that I hope will be able to make it.

This week sermon in honor of our Missionary  is about missions and achieving our peak performance in completing our mission.  The scripture for this week is Matt 28: 16-20.  Here Jesus appears to the disciples for forty days after the Resurrection.  he then gives them the Great Commission.  This is our mission, this is why we are here.  i hope we will have a new perspective on missions after this week and we will understand we have all been called to a mission field.  We just need to find our calling and get busy.

I hope to see you in Church on Sunday and I hope to get to share with you what God is doing in your life.  We will have Ice Cream and Cake after the service on Sunday to celebrate the Birthdays and Anniversary for the month of July and I really hope we have a great turnout.  On Sunday the 26Th Summitt Church will be here and we are going to prepare Lunch for them prior to our service.  If you want to bring something see Cindy and get on the list.  I am excited about what is going on and what is coming up in our future.  Keep praying for those that need our prayers and do something good for somebody this week and we will see you on Sunday.

Love Ya

Pastor David & Pris

Sunday July 12th 2009

Bartimaeus Baptist Temple Posted on July 8, 2009 by David WhitmoreJune 23, 2018

Hello faithful members of BBT.  This has been a strange week at my house. Pris has been out of the country all week and me and Kim have been just taken care of business but we do miss her.  She will be back Friday and I can’t wait.  Ruth and Cathey have been gone all week too and I am looking forward to seeing them again this Sunday.  We are going to have a special group at church this week to lead us in some praise worship so you don’t want to miss this.  Kelly was in a car accident this week and she is in Baylor Hospital with broken ribs and a few cuts and bruises but luckily she is going to be OK.  Please be praying for her not only for this but also for her family situation.

This week sermon comes from Mark 6: 14-29.  We are going to talk about how the pressure’s of life affect our good judgement.  It is amazing how many times we make the wrong choices when we are under pressure to make something happen.  We all need to take time and consider what we are doing and how this is going to effect us not just in the moment but on down the road.  If we were able to understand how important it is not to jump to conclusions or make rash statements as they pop in our heads, we would spend less time having to go back and try to make up for something we did in haste.  In this story we see King Herod  makes a spur of the moment promise  that is going to haunt him the rest of his life.  I want us to understand the  choices we have, not just what choices are obvious because many times we do the wrong thing because we don’t understand the situation and we don’t realize what the real problem is.  I hope you will be ready to receive what it is that the Lord has for us this week and I know there will be an opportunity to be blessed and be a blessing.

If you need a special prayer this week call me and let me pray for you or your family and never miss the blessing that God is putting in your life.  I pray that YOU will be one of God’s blessings that he has put in someone life.  Do something good for somebody this week and lets share in fellowship on Sunday.  We will see you there.  We love you!

Pastor David & Pris

Sunday July 5th

Bartimaeus Baptist Temple Posted on July 2, 2009 by David WhitmoreJune 23, 2018

Hello faithful members of BBT. Can you believe that this year is 1/2 over. As we celebrate this 4Th of July weekend, I hope you will be safe and thankful for what a great country we live in. I did get some sad news this week.  D.H. Howell who is a good friend of this Church and people with disabilities in general was diagnosed with bone cancer and is given just a short time to survive. We need to pray everyday for the remission of this terrible cancer and pray that God will heal our brother as only he can do.  D.H. has been a strong advocate for the rights of people with disabilities and along with my father has been a tireless worker in this area.

After I received this news this week I wanted to bring a message of hope for us this week. Many are hurting and suffering so the question is why is there so much suffering and why do good people have to suffer so much? The scripture I chose for this week to try and understand this is II Chronicles 12: 7-10. Sometimes we need to remember we are very fragile as humans both physically and emotionally and sometimes we have a tendency just to throw up our hands and cry out “what’s the use”. Paul in this scripture has an affliction but he knows that even though he has prayed three times for God to remove this he still knows that God loves him and will help him get through this. We as believers sometimes expect God to fix every situation immediately the way we think it should be fixed. We as believers understand God has that kind of power what we don’t understand why God doesn’t use that power to solve the problems in our lives. This is what we are going to talk about this week and I want your input on this subject because it is something we need to understand and grab a hold of.  I know many of you are really struggling with this question and i know God want us to trust him in this matter and he WILL deliver us from this valley if we will just trust him.  I don’t have anyone scheduled to do their testimony this week but Linda will bring the Sunday School lesson

I hope you have a great weekend pray for those that need our prayers and Pris ask me to have you pray for her this week as she heads off for Mexico . I will miss her terribly but I know she will have a great time. I will see you at church on Sunday and I hope you will invite someone to come with you and share in the experience of BBT. Do something nice for someone this week and you cab start by praying for our Men and Women that are fighting for this country to help keep us safe. I will see you Sunday

Love You

Pastor David
