Sunday July 12th 2009

Bartimaeus Baptist Temple Posted on July 8, 2009 by David WhitmoreJune 23, 2018

Hello faithful members of BBT.  This has been a strange week at my house. Pris has been out of the country all week and me and Kim have been just taken care of business but we do miss her.  She will be back Friday and I can’t wait.  Ruth and Cathey have been gone all week too and I am looking forward to seeing them again this Sunday.  We are going to have a special group at church this week to lead us in some praise worship so you don’t want to miss this.  Kelly was in a car accident this week and she is in Baylor Hospital with broken ribs and a few cuts and bruises but luckily she is going to be OK.  Please be praying for her not only for this but also for her family situation.

This week sermon comes from Mark 6: 14-29.  We are going to talk about how the pressure’s of life affect our good judgement.  It is amazing how many times we make the wrong choices when we are under pressure to make something happen.  We all need to take time and consider what we are doing and how this is going to effect us not just in the moment but on down the road.  If we were able to understand how important it is not to jump to conclusions or make rash statements as they pop in our heads, we would spend less time having to go back and try to make up for something we did in haste.  In this story we see King Herod  makes a spur of the moment promise  that is going to haunt him the rest of his life.  I want us to understand the  choices we have, not just what choices are obvious because many times we do the wrong thing because we don’t understand the situation and we don’t realize what the real problem is.  I hope you will be ready to receive what it is that the Lord has for us this week and I know there will be an opportunity to be blessed and be a blessing.

If you need a special prayer this week call me and let me pray for you or your family and never miss the blessing that God is putting in your life.  I pray that YOU will be one of God’s blessings that he has put in someone life.  Do something good for somebody this week and lets share in fellowship on Sunday.  We will see you there.  We love you!

Pastor David & Pris

Sunday July 5th

Bartimaeus Baptist Temple Posted on July 2, 2009 by David WhitmoreJune 23, 2018

Hello faithful members of BBT. Can you believe that this year is 1/2 over. As we celebrate this 4Th of July weekend, I hope you will be safe and thankful for what a great country we live in. I did get some sad news this week.  D.H. Howell who is a good friend of this Church and people with disabilities in general was diagnosed with bone cancer and is given just a short time to survive. We need to pray everyday for the remission of this terrible cancer and pray that God will heal our brother as only he can do.  D.H. has been a strong advocate for the rights of people with disabilities and along with my father has been a tireless worker in this area.

After I received this news this week I wanted to bring a message of hope for us this week. Many are hurting and suffering so the question is why is there so much suffering and why do good people have to suffer so much? The scripture I chose for this week to try and understand this is II Chronicles 12: 7-10. Sometimes we need to remember we are very fragile as humans both physically and emotionally and sometimes we have a tendency just to throw up our hands and cry out “what’s the use”. Paul in this scripture has an affliction but he knows that even though he has prayed three times for God to remove this he still knows that God loves him and will help him get through this. We as believers sometimes expect God to fix every situation immediately the way we think it should be fixed. We as believers understand God has that kind of power what we don’t understand why God doesn’t use that power to solve the problems in our lives. This is what we are going to talk about this week and I want your input on this subject because it is something we need to understand and grab a hold of.  I know many of you are really struggling with this question and i know God want us to trust him in this matter and he WILL deliver us from this valley if we will just trust him.  I don’t have anyone scheduled to do their testimony this week but Linda will bring the Sunday School lesson

I hope you have a great weekend pray for those that need our prayers and Pris ask me to have you pray for her this week as she heads off for Mexico . I will miss her terribly but I know she will have a great time. I will see you at church on Sunday and I hope you will invite someone to come with you and share in the experience of BBT. Do something nice for someone this week and you cab start by praying for our Men and Women that are fighting for this country to help keep us safe. I will see you Sunday

Love You

Pastor David

Bartimaeus Baptist Temple Posted on June 25, 2009 by David WhitmoreJuly 2, 2018

Hello faithful members of BBT.  My it seems like this year is just flying by.  I hope you remember to keep that New Years resolutions to be in Church every Sunday you possible can.  We miss you when you are not here.  It was good to see Lupe back this week and we pray that she will have no more problems with her sinus problem. We were very honored to have Sandy as a guest last week and we thank Glen and Pam for inviting her.  Glen gave his testimony last week and Priscilla brought the Sunday School leasson.  I am sorry we did not get to record these this week as our recording specialist ( the guy with the recorder) Larry was out of town with his beloved vistaing her sister.  We missed Mike and Cindy as well and I hope they will have recovered from their vacation with their kids by this Sunday.  We owe a special thanks to Ruth for getting hats with the church name on them for all the fathers.

This week is the week for Summitt Church to come and worship with us and I am looking forward to the Praise and Worship this week and the message by pastor Joel.  This would be a great week to invite someone to come to church with you.  If you have not had a chance to share your testimony this year get with me or Cindy and we will schedule you in the near future.

If you have any ideas about a fellowship you would like to see us have get with me and lets see what we can do in the month of July. I want to encourage you not to let the heat get to you this summer and lets have record numbers in church every week.  I know great things are going to take place if we will do our part.  God is always faithful to do his.  Keep up the good work and we will see you on Sunday, check the prayer requests every day and if you need someone added on to this let me know.  Do something good for somebody this week and be ready to share the blessing you have received this week.

Love you

Pastor David and Pris

Bartimaeus Baptist Temple Posted on June 19, 2009 by David WhitmoreJuly 2, 2018

Hello members of BBT and I hope you are having a great Father’s day week.  You know they say Fathers’s day is just like Mother’s day just the gifts are not as expensive!  That may be true but I know what it means to have a great Father and I hope you do too.  We celebrated the birthdays and anniversary’s last week and we had a good group but there were many that were not able to be there.  I know several were out of town and others were sick but I am praying that all of you are back home now and ones that were sick are feeling better.  I hoped you felt our prayers for you.  This Sunday is Fathers day and I hope we have a good group in church on Sunday.

This weeks message is called Ride of your Life and the scripture is Mark 4: 35-41.  This is the story of Jesus calming the sea but I don’t want us just to focus on that, but what he can do for the storms that come up in our lives.  Before we get carried away at criticizing the disciples we need to see how we react when we are in the midst of a storm as well.  And what about after the storm?  Are we just so glad to be out of it we fail to see how we were delivered and what  we need to learn the next time a storm comes up?   Life is not easy but life is precious.  We can enjoy the ride or we can worry ourselves into a early grave.  Lets choose to ride out the storms and enjoy the sunsine that comes after.  You will have more peace in your life if you will trust God and walk in your faith.

I will see you on Sunday, remember to pray for those that need our help.  Always check out the Prayer room where we have the prayer requests listed, and let’s do good things for the people around us.

Love you

Pastor David & Pris

Bartimaeus Baptist Temple Posted on June 12, 2009 by David WhitmoreJuly 2, 2018

Hello fateful BBT members.  I hope you are having a great week. I really enjoyed our time together last week and always love it when the body gets involved in the service.  I really want to thank Dee Dee for sharing her testimony with us because I know how hard that was for her to speak in front of a group but I was very proud of the way she was able to do this.  Anna is going to share her testimony with us this week and Linda is going to present the Sunday School lesson this week on something God has been dealing with her on this week.  We are also going to have the Birthday celebration for the ones who have birthdays in June.

This week message comes from II Corinthians 5: 6-10.  The question is what does it mean to live by faith?  What does it mean to walk by faith and not by sight?  I know you have heard that many times but is it something we are doing or just something we are talking about.  In order for us to accomplish the things God has for us as a Church as well as individuals we had better know what this means.  It is a very difficult thing to do but when we have learned to walk in the “light” and not in “darkness”, we will be able to do anything with God’s help and his amazing grace.  I hope you will be here this week and I hope we can go into next week with the confidence ” I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.” Our future is so bright and our goals so high that over the next year we are going to see many things come about that we never dreamed we would see.  Come be a part of this mighty movement of God and lets keep the dream alive because we really are destined to do great things.  We love you and hope to see you on Sunday, in the meantime don’t miss a single chance to do something good for somebody who needs your help!

Love ya

Pastor David and Pris.

Bartimaeus Baptist Temple Posted on June 5, 2009 by David WhitmoreJuly 2, 2018

Welcome faithful members of BBT. It was so good to see you last week and the ones that could not make it we are praying that you will be able to make it this week. Sandra has been visiting with us for the last few weeks and we no longer look at her like a visitor but as one of us, We did have some visitors, David and Katie who did visit and we are hoping that will continue to visit. David had lost his job and wants us to be praying for help in that department and for his family.   We did not have a testimony this week as Anna was out of town but she will give her testimony in a couple of weeks.  Dee Dee will give her testimony this week so be there to hear what God is doing in her and her Mother’s life.

This week I am going to be preaching on having a heart-healthy faith and what it means to be a one-calorie Christian. The scripture verse is one of my favorites Romans 8: 12-17.  I want us to look at how we are looking at life and how little or how much we use our faith in decisions we are making. It is important that we are physically healthy but it is even more important to have a rich and satisfying spiritual life. We need to understand who we are and we need to understand how God sees us and how he sees others. If we were ever able to grasp the idea that we are chosen and joint Aries with Christ there is nothing we would not be able to do and we would be afraid of noting. That is who God created us to be!

I am looking forward to seeing you this week and please continue to look at the prayer request on the website and pray for those listed every day. Please add chuck cagle to your prayers as he has gone into the hospital and has had knee surgery.  He is in a rehab center in Red Oak and needs our prayers for his quick and full recovery  I also hope that you that made a commitment this week to call Arvella and pray with her kept your promise.  I know that God blesses those that honor their commitments. We Will see you on Sunday aremember to dosomethig good for some one this week.  it will help you with your heart-healthy faith.

Love ya
Pastor David and Pris

Message for Sunday, May 31 – Tongue Twisted

Bartimaeus Baptist Temple Posted on May 24, 2009 by LarryJuly 7, 2018

If every word that has been written were written on the sky, would the world see the sun?  Man’s attempt to build the tower of Babel was thwarted by the Almighty.  Man thinks to build it again with bricks of glue and paper.

If every word that man has spoken were spoken all at once, would the world be deafened by the noise?  Every man caries his soap box.  How often he fails to see that the contents of his platform would benefit from an application of the former contents of his platform,  but it is so much easier to carry when empty.

A word is an abstract thing.  When written, a mere collection of letters.  When spoken, a collection of sounds.  A word may be seen, heard, even felt, but of itself it has no substance.  Yet our world is defined by words.
What a paradox is the word.  Words in the mouth of one are priceless, while the same words in the mouth of another are worthless.  They carry the power of destruction and the power of creation.  They are a murderer’s knife and a surgeon’s scalpel.  They are a deadly poison and a healing tonic.

Oh that we would learn to give value to our words, for the power of the word is in the speaker.  How often we toss them around like refuse, taking no thought for where they may land.  We expect others to except them as truth, but fail to honor them ourselves.  In our anger we throw them at the ones we love, and then don’t understand why they throw them back at us.  We see our own bleeding and still fail to understand that the same thing that wounded us also wounded them.  We grow our thick skin, which, while it may be less easily damaged, is also less able to feel.

Where is the truth?  If we construct an understanding of ourselves and our world with words, where is the foundation that would support such a structure?  What an amazing thing, that the creator of the universe would choose as one way to define Himself, “The Word.”  The Word brought the earth into existence. The Word created man in His own image.  “The Word became flesh and dwelt among us.”  The Word is life to us.  It is His power delivered to us through His words that provides a standard by which the value of all other words may be judged.  The paradoxical word, personified, purified and glorified, is Jesus Himself.

Read James 1:26, 3:1-12; Matt 12:33-37

May The Word be the master of your words from this day forward.  See you Sunday.

Sunday May 24th 2009

Bartimaeus Baptist Temple Posted on May 21, 2009 by David WhitmoreJuly 7, 2018

Greeting faithful members of BBT.  I really enjoyed the service last week and was excited that April has joined our membership.  Linda did a great job on the Sunday School lesson and I enjoyed Ed sharing his testimony with us.  I also enjoyed meeting our guest and having the opportunity to see what Mrs Hart may be able to do to help some of our members who are needing better treatment in their home health care services.

This Sunday Joel and the members of Summitt Church will be with us for their monthly visit and I am so looking forward to our time of praise and worship on Sunday.  I hope you will make every effort to attend and invite someone to come along with you for this celebration.

Remember to go into prayer room and pray for those that need our prayers and please continue to to pray for the upcoming renovations on  the church.  It seems every week the devil is trying to throw a new roadblock in our face but we will not be deterred we will not give up because we know that is is by our Faith in God that we will be able to complete the task that God puts before us and his grace is sufficient for us.

I hope to see you on Sunday and remember to be praying for Mike and Cindy this week as they travel to Houston for the holiday and there may be others that are traveling over the Memorial day holiday so be safe and remember to do something good for somebody this week because remember Jesus says ” no longer do I look at you as a servant but as a friend.”  Love you

Pastor David & Pris

Sunday may 17th 2009

Bartimaeus Baptist Temple Posted on May 14, 2009 by David WhitmoreJuly 7, 2018

Greetings fellow members of BBT.  I hope you have been counting your blessings this week.  God is doing something in your life and in mine and I am so excited about what he still has in store for us.  I enjoyed our time together last week celebrating Mother’s Day and I want to thank Ruth for her efforts to make it such a nice day.  I enjoyed the Sunday School lesson that Sarah had for us and I enjoyed hearing the testimony from Peggy.  We also were blessed to have April sing for us for the first time.  I think we all had a good time at the fellowship after church and the cake and punch were very good.  I always look forward to Sunday’s as I get to be with my church family.

This Sunday Linda is going to bring the Sunday School lesson as Priscilla is going down to her parents on Sunday with our son to repair some items at their house that need  repairing. Ed is going to give us his testimony this week.  I cant wait to hear this! The message for this week is “Friends of Jesus”.  The scripture verse is John 15: 9-17.  We are going to look and see who are the friends of Jesus and what do they have to offer in this friendship.  We will also look at what Jesus offers us by being his friend.  Friends are something you can never have too many of.  But good friends are few and far between.  A good friend is someone who cares about you in spite of your short comings, in spite of your mistakes.  Unfortunately many people have the theory ”  It matters not whether you win or lose; what matters is whether I win or lose”.  I am so thankful for the good friends I have in my life and I truly want to BE a good friend to others.  Hopefully this week we will see in this leasson what we need to do to be not only a friend to Jesus but a good friend to each other.

On Sunday the 24Th Summitt Church will be here again and on Sunday the 31st Larry will bring the message that week.  Please continue to support this ministry and continue to invite others to visit and wordhip with us.  I promise you things are beginning to happen here at BBT and you can be part of it or you can just by and watch.  We want you to be part of it because God created us to be a blessing to him and to others.  Remember the scripture vs for this week ” You are no longer my servant you are my friend.”  Do something good for somebody this week, you can do this by just being a good friend and I will see you on Sunday.  We love you

Pastor David and Pris

Sunday May 10th 2009

Bartimaeus Baptist Temple Posted on May 7, 2009 by David WhitmoreJuly 7, 2018

Hello faithful BBT members and friends.  I really missed you last week but I was really glad to get to do this one last favor for my friend Ronnie.  It was good to see a lot of old friends.  It is nice to know that there are so many good people to take care of things back home.  I was sorry the recorder did not work so I was unable to hear Larry’s sermon but I did read his text on this website and I know he really had a good word for you. I know you also enjoyed the leasson Linda  gave during Sunday School.  I also heard that Pam got to play her violin.  I am looking forward to hearing her in the future.

This week is Mothers day and what a special day that is.  I was very fortunate to have a great Mother and I feel like I have several women in my life now that still fill that role.  I am truly blessed.  The scripture verse for this week is 1 John 4: 7-21.  We will also look at the Gospel of John the 21st Chapter where Jesus is talking to Peter one last time.  My question to you this week is:  ” I love my mother but ……”  How do you fill in the last part of that question?

I hope you have a terrific week and I am looking forward to seeing you on Sunday.  We are not only honoring the Mothers on Sunday, we are going to celebrate the birthdays for the month of May. Peggy is going to share her testimony. Invite someone to come to Church with you on Sunday and lets celebrate Mother’s day the way it should be celebrated, talking about the love of God and the love of a Mother.  I look forward to hearing your answers to my question.  Remember to do something good for somebody this week and if your Mother is still alive tell her how much you love and admire her.  We love you see you on Sunday!
