Message for March 27 – The Heart of the Matter
Lately we’ve been talking a lot about the things we should be doing as a church, and well we should. Our faith should be exhibiting itself in what we do. I have another question for you this week. If we do everything we know that we should, is that enough? God wants our obedience, but is that all He wants? It is likely that most if not all of you who will hear this message have at least heard that it is through Jesus that we are justified and not by our works, but what is it that He is asking of us? To put it simply, He wants our hearts. What does that mean? Let’s find out together.
35 One of them,a lawyer, asked Him a question, testing Him, 36 “Teacher, which is the great commandment in the Law?” 37 And He said to him, “‘YOU SHALL LOVE THE LORD YOUR GOD WITH ALL YOUR HEART, AND WITH ALL YOUR SOUL, AND WITH ALL YOUR MIND.’ 38 “This is the great and foremost commandment. 39 “The second is like it, ‘YOU SHALL LOVE YOUR NEIGHBOR AS YOURSELF.’ 40 “On these two commandments depend the whole Law and the Prophets.” (Matthew 22:35-40 NASB)
