Message by Larry Thacker Jr. from October 16, “Unless You Repent”
In Luke 13:1-5, Jesus is asked about a local atrocity, perhaps in an attempt to get Him to say something against the Roman government that they could use against him. Whatever the motive, Jesus turns it into a teaching opportunity. His message, the victims were not, as many might have supposed, worse sinners than everyone else. He warns them, and also us, that without repentance, we are equally doomed as they. Though we are not as prone to assume divine judgment when tragedy strikes, it is a trap we can fall into, especially on an individual level. It is not for us to presume. It is for us to repent, and to live in a state of repentance.
