The Bartimaeus Blog 2023.14
Hello loved ones. I hope you are getting a chance to enjoy the weekend. I am looking forward to a day off on Monday. I’m also looking forward to seeing you all tomorrow! We’ll be having a picnic style meal after the service. It’s a great time to bring a friend. The church is providing the hotdogs and asking that you bring a simple side item. Come and be all that and a bag of chips! 😉
Monday will be Memorial day. Many will have the day off. We often take the opportunity to get with friends and family and enjoy good food and the good weather. I think that’s great! When we share a meal, we are sharing more than just food. That was a regular practice in the early church. But we would do well to note what it is that we’re supposed to be remembering on this day. We enjoy it at the cost of human lives, given in sacrifice so that we remain free.
Many of us have experienced the sadness of seeing loved ones slipping away due to memory loss. Though we’ve all been through things we might like to forget, we know that forgetting is usually not a good thing. But we are a forgetful people. The hectic pace of modern life doesn’t help, but we’ve always been that way. It’s not just the little things either. Sometimes we forget the things that really matter.
That’s why God gave His people so many different ways to remember who they were and who He is. Yet even with all of that, they still forgot. We read about it and wonder, but we are no different. Tomorrow, we’ll look at just a few of the tools God gave to His people to help them remember, and we’ll consider how we can hold onto the things that are worth remembering.
Don’t forget to come tomorrow!
Love you all,
Larry
